From Defenders of Wildlife: "First, the bad news: misguided aerial gunning of wolves in Idaho could begin soon. Now, the good news: Already, more 800 caring Defenders supporters have stepped up to help fund our work to prevent this tragedy and save these wolves. It’s a terrifying scene: a helicopter hovers low over the woods, the sudden crack of gunfire and an imperiled wolf is killed. Western Wildlife Services — the federal government’s chief wildlife-killing agency — is gearing up for a campaign of aerial killing in 2011 in a misguided attempt to increase elk numbers for hunters to kill.
The targets? Wolves in parts of Idaho’s National Forests. These wolves are no match for federal gunners in helicopters. But, with your help, we can work to stop the killing.

Every Little Bit helps!
Under proposals now being considered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service more than 50 wolves — supposedly federally protected wolves — could be targeted for death this spring at the hands of federal agents.
Last summer, a federal judge restored life-saving Endangered Species Act protections for these wolves. But that hasn’t stopped officials in Idaho from seeking their deaths… or Wildlife Services from drafting a gruesome plan to kill these magnificent animals.
To stop the killing before it begins, our crack legal team is tenaciously fighting in the courts and our staff in Idaho is working hard on the ground. If you've never donated to Defenders of Wildlife, we need your help now!
If Anyone is from Indiana- Pay Especial Attention to this note- To win the difficult fight ahead and other wildlife emergencies, we need to raise at least $211,000 before midnight Eastern Time Friday.
We need just 41 people from Indiana to meet our goal of 2,011 dedicated supporters for the New Year!
From experience, your donations really do make a difference. Caring supporters like you helped us win the legal fight to restore protections for wolves in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. And they helped us stop an earlier Wildlife Services plan that would have allowed for the gassing of wolf pups in their dens and wolf sterilization schemes.
The killing could begin in just a few short months. But our actions to save these wolves need your support right now.
Make your contribution today and help stop aerial wolf killing in Idaho before it starts.
P.S. Our wolves don’t have much time. Please make your secure online contribution by 11:59 PM Eastern Time Friday. Or, call 1-800-385-9712 to donate by phone.
